Hello! I’m a writer of KARAKURIJAPAN, Yonosuke!

What I’ll introduce today is how to make an easy origami catfish!

Speaking of catfish, recently it has been talked about in the news, do you know that?

What is broiled catfish? How does it taste?

In Japan, it is a custom to eat eels on the Midsummer Day of the Ox. Every year on that day, eel dishes which look delicious are displayed in supermarkets.

In this year, however, something other than eels was displayed in supermarkets on the Midsummer Day of the Ox, which was much talked about in the news. That was, “broiled catfish”!

%e3%82%b9%e3%82%af%e3%83%aa%e3%83%bc%e3%83%b3%e3%82%b7%e3%83%a7%e3%83%83%e3%83%88-2016-10-03-10-51-00

The reason why broiled catfish were sold in supermarkets is that the catch of eels decreased. It has surprisingly taken 6 years for professors of Kinki University to develop catfish to be broiled.

They improved feed and viscera and grow them up in groundwater to develop fatty catfish without fishy smell which are suitable to be broiled.

The important point, the taste is… I often heard it was delicious!

The mouthfeel is soft, and you can also enjoy its soft skin. It’s not so fatty as eels, but you can feel the similar taste to eels.

And more, broiled catfish are fascinating because of its cheapness!

It is really pleasing that you can eat something similar to eels with much cheaper price than broiled eels.

They should be sold in supermarkets on the Midsummer Day of the Ox in next year as well! If you missed it in this year, please try it in next year!

Then, I’ll introduce how to make this catfish of origami from now!
